The World Cleanup Day takes place on September 18<sup>th<\/sup> worldwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The World Cleanup Day is an annual global social action program aimed at combating the global solid waste problem, including the problem of marine debris. It is coordinated by the global organization Let&#8217;s Do It! World, the headquarters is located in Tallinn, Estonia. It aims to raise awareness of the mismanaged waste crisis by mobilizing all spheres of society to participate in cleanup actions. Individuals, governments, corporations and organizations are all encouraged to take part in cleanups and to find solutions to tackle mismanaged waste. There are numerous organizations that facilitate and host World Cleanup Day events globally.<\/p>\n<p>The World Cleanup Day grew out from the Let\u2019s Do It movement that was organized first time in 2008 in Estonia. The movement was organized globally first time on September 15, in 2018, when 18 million people across 157 countries cleaned the world from mismanaged waste and collected over 88500 tons of waste.<\/p>\n<p>Port of Tallinn has participated in the cleanup events every year since the beginning. Employees of Port of Tallinn have joined hands to clean its harbor area and neighboring areas as environmental issues are one of its priorities. Also, it\u2019s a fun and useful team building event as doing something good for the environment unites people.<\/p>\n<p>This year employees of Port of Tallinn will clean the Old City Harbour area on September 17 from small debris, mainly cigarette butts that are thrown on the ground. One cigarette butt can pollute up to 1 liter of water, that\u2019s why it\u2019s important to prevent them from getting into the sea or other bodies of water. It will help to keep the marine environment cleaner and guarantee better conditions for the species living in the Baltic Sea.<\/p>\n<p>Port of Tallinn invites other ports to follow their example and organize cleanup events in their local areas.
