At the request of the Port of Tallinn, a smart phone application “Laevad sadamas” (Ships in Port) was created to provide real-time information about liner schedules as well as the arrival and departure times of cruise ships docking at the Old City Harbour.
The app displays five types of information on the ships. In one mode, it shows all the liner and cruise ship arrivals and departures in Tallinn on a particular day. In the other, it displays all cruise ship arrivals and departures in the port during the cruise season. As an additional feature, it is possible to check the vessel schedules on Helsinki, Stockholm and St. Petersburg passenger routes.
“For the most part, the app was designed to aid companies and people handling cruise ships and passengers,” explains Ms. Sirle Arro, the Head of Marketing and Communication Department of the Port of Tallinn. “But it can be also downloaded for free by all those interested in the ships docking at the Old City Harbour.”
The application displays the arrival and departure times of each ship and by clicking on a particular vessel, one can see its name, maximum passenger capacity, waterline length, berth, and the name of the operator. Berths can be also viewed on the map integrated in the application.
Moreover, the user of the app can set a reminder for the arrival or departure of the vessel.
The application is available for smartphones using Android platform and can be found in the app store by typing a keyword “Laevad sadamas” (Ships in Port). Those using Apple iOS smart devices can download the app “Laevad” (Ships) in a few days’ time.
The application was created by a software development company Finestmedia at the request of the Port of Tallinn. It comes in three languages – in addition to Estonian, a Russian and an English version is available.
